Background of the Study
Urban slums are areas characterized by overcrowded living conditions, inadequate infrastructure, poor sanitation, and limited access to basic services. In Nigeria, rapid urbanization has led to the expansion of slums, where a large portion of the population lives without access to sufficient housing, clean water, healthcare, and education. Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, is witnessing a rise in slum areas, affecting the overall living conditions of many residents.
Urban slum conditions often lead to the violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to adequate housing, the right to health, the right to clean water, and the right to education. This study aims to examine the impact of slum living conditions on the human rights of the residents of Jalingo.
Statement of the Problem
The rapid growth of urban slums in Jalingo has led to significant challenges for residents, including limited access to basic human rights. Many slum dwellers face overcrowded housing, poor sanitation, lack of healthcare services, and inadequate infrastructure. This study seeks to assess the extent to which these urban slum conditions affect the human rights of the people of Jalingo.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on the urban slums in Jalingo, examining the living conditions and their impact on the human rights of residents. Limitations include potential difficulty in accessing slum areas due to infrastructure challenges and reluctance from residents to participate in surveys due to fear of stigmatization.
